World Record Simul in Raritan on April 9th
Just a reminder that IM Dean Ippolito will attempt the simultaneous Chess World Record this weekend, on Saturday April 9th, beginning at 10 a.m. The event will take place at St. Ann School at Anderson Street and Second Avenue in Raritan, NJ, and there will be prizes throughout the day for participants. Originally, Dean's website suggested an 1800 ELO limit for participants (presumably to help him satisfy the Guiness win ratio requirement), but that upward rating limit has now been removed. See the Dean J. Ippolito Chess World Record website for more details and to register as a participant.

Ippolito's Attempt at World Record Delayed
IM Dean Ippolito has postponed his attempt at the World Record for a chess simultaneous exhibition until the specific rules required by Guinness can be clarified (possibly some time in April 2011). There have been questions raised by Guinness regarding the age and affiliation of the players involved in the most recent records established in Iran and Israel, so Ippolito quite rightly does not want to go ahead until the Guinness criteria for qualified opponents can be clarified. Watch his website for further news and details.

IM Dean Ippolito at SPICE
New Jersey IM Dean Ippolito came very close to gaining a GM norm at the 2010 SPICE Spring Invitational in Lubbock, Texas. But his loss to IM Gergely Antal in Round 8 (see video above of his resignation) ended his title chase in this tournament -- though it gave Antal a shot at his own norm. Dean did score a couple of nice wins along the way, though, including a tactically sharp victory over celebrated youngster Darwin Yang.

IM Dean Ippolito
New Jersey IM Dean Ippolito, who has been playing Board 2 for the NJ Knockouts, is profiled in a nice interview by New York Knight WFM Elizabeth Vicary. Neither Ippolito nor Vicary will play in the NJ vs. NY match-up tomorrow to determine the final seat for the USCL playoffs.
