Kasparov on Colbert Tonight (Must See TV)

Garry Kasparov will appear tonight on Comedy Central's The Colbert Report. The former World Chess Champion and Russian presidential candidate will likely use the time to promote his book How Life Imitates Chess, but he will no doubt talk politics with the brilliant fake-conservative talk-show host. BTW: if you do not know Colbert's work, be sure to check out the amazing video of him roasting President Bush (and the press) at the White House Correspondents Association dinner.

Thanks for the heads up!

My prediction: awkward, very awkward interview. Not a difficult prediction to make, given the interviewer. The question is how will the interviewee handle the odd behavior!

I think Garry handled himself well enough, maybe even better than expected, given that he can be stiff and testy, but the whole thing was still kind of flat.

It was also a short interview, and I got the feeling Colbert may have ended it early. Was he short on time, or was the conversation just not going anywhere?

It's too bad the media understand so little about chess. Instead of identifying Kasparov over and over as a grandmaster, couldn't they have once mentioned that he was world champion?

At least Colbert was better than Charlie Rose's producers, whose on-screen supers once identified Garry as a "former" grandmaster.

I agree. I was rather disappointed by the whole thing. It seemed awkward and flew by too quickly. And what little conversation there was seemed to be at cross-purposes. ChessBase posted a link to the best clip.

Every intereview on the Colbert Report could be summed up with those two sentences. Well put. I don't really understand his popularity. Daily Show rules!!!
