He covers Black alternatives very well, and he offers a different line involving Bg5 that makes a good alternative line against 4.h4 h5.
https://www.qualitychess.co.uk/products/1/209/playing_1e4_-_caro-kann_1e5_and_minor_lines_by_john_shaw/
Michael Goellerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14512012158305281566noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12844144.post-37711312974883287482015-11-11T01:11:06.436-05:002015-11-11T01:11:06.436-05:00The latest statement on this line comes from Danie...The latest statement on this line comes from Daniel Lowinger's "Opening Originals: Strong Sidelines for Club Cats" (http://www.amazon.com/Opening-Originals-Strong-Sidelines-Club/dp/1941270190) with its chapter on 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 Bf5 4. h4 h5 5. I have played some blitz games with this line and will try to dig them up. The possibility of ...f6 comes up in other lines, and I think White has to be prepared to just abandon the Bishop there too. In his book Attacking the Caro-Kann, Dreev analyzes the line 5.Bg5 Qb6 6.Bd3 Bxd3 7.Qxd3 Qxb3 8.e6 f6 9.Nf3! I really like being able to add sharpness. However as I have continued to look at the "Caveman" I had to ask myself wouldn't be natural for some players to whip out 5..f6 (as ugly as it looks)? A number of the engines suggest that 6.Bishop retreats is ever so slightly in Blacks favour. However can I suggest 6.Bd3 !? because after 6…Bd3 7.Qxd3 fxg5 8.Qg6+ Kd7 9.e6+ Kc7 10.hxg5 Black is utterly clamped down and will have further trouble with Ng1-f3-Ne5Hadron of Chess.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12844144.post-33820780010433666482013-03-26T11:01:26.763-04:002013-03-26T11:01:26.763-04:00Hoho, nice stuff !
